About The Club |
|||||||
Rotherham Town Junior Football Club was founded in 1997 as a joint boys and girls club. In 1998 the girls became an independent club and by that time consisted of 1 under 10s, 2 under 12s and 2 under 14 teams and had well over 50 girls playing league football. A new Committee was set up. Since the club started it has become one of the most respected clubs in the country. We have spread the name of Rotherham in girl’s football from one end of the country to the other, playing tournaments in places such as Watford, Cheshire, Nottingham, Leicester etc. In the league we play teams from Leeds, Bradford, Grimsby, Chesterfield, Doncaster and Huddersfield. Girl’s football is the fastest growing sport in the country and is run to a very high standard. Over the last 6 years the girls have picked up many trophies such as the Under 12 League division 1 winners twice in 2001, 2002, under 14 division 2 winners in 2002, under 14 division 2 runners up 2000 and many more. In the 2003/2004 season the under 12 division 3 were runners up and the under 16 division 1 were also runners up, this team also got to the semi final of the cup losing to Leeds United. In the 2006/2007 season the under 15s won both the league and cup and the under 16s were runners up in the league. In 2002 the club had five players selected for trials with England under 15s and the three for trial with the under 16s. At the end of the season 2003 we had two girls who play with the England under 16s and one player has started a 2-year scholarship with the Arsenal Football Academy. In 2003 Rotherham Town Girls joined together with the newly formed Rotherham United Ladies (formally Parkgate Ladies) who play in the Midland Combination League. This gave our players the opportunity to continue playing football after they reach the age of 16. In the future we were hoping to have a Rotherham Town Ladies open age team so our girls can continue playing after the age of 16. Playing for Rotherham Town Girls JFC will involve commitment from the parent/carers aswell as the players. Having the parents involved on all levels not only encourages the girls, but it also helps the club run a lot better. Due to location of the teams involved in the league a large amount of travelling is undertaken which will need your support. We know that this is not always possible due to differing circumstances but we are sure that this can be overcome by talking to the Manager of your player’s team. Training is run on a weekly basis, and the girls MUST attend training if wishing to participate in playing in the league. If you, as a player, are selected to play for one of the Rotherham Town teams and you cannot make it to training then its up to you to contact your Manager before the training session. Rotherham Town Girls’ Club runs a strict code of conduct (see Rule Book). You must turn up on match days well in time to warm up for your game. You must listen to your Manager at all times, the Managers decisions are final on all matters. The only person who is allowed to give instructions to the players is the Manager and any interference from parent/carers will result in the player being substituted. |
