After the adventure of a long drive out to Totley sadly our girls got off to a very slow start eventually losing to a penalty at the end. Throughout this game we showed some good football and a game we should have won but our nerves seem to get better of us and silly mistakes cost us. Vicky had a good game in the net even though she picked up a knock early in the first half but bravely carried on, she also took another knock in the second half and got winded so had a rough time. A fantastic performance from Kelly in midfield scooped her the MOM award and she scored two absolutely fantastic goals, the first a 25yard shot and the second a lovely run into the box passing two defenders before finally slotting it past their keeper. Hollie got on the score sheet after a great run from Akila to put pressure on the goalkeeper who spilled the ball for Hollie to slot it home. Our midfield looked a little ragged at times and left our defence exposed on several occasions which sadly led to the goals being conceded. Several great chances went a miss for us and few questionable decisions from the referee, but that's football. All in all a draw would have been a fair result. |

Our first home fixture didn't go to plan as we simple didn't take our chances and the opposition did. The score could have easily been 4-8 with chances going begging. We rode our luck a little on two occasion as Edlington hit the post, but at the other end we weren't without our chances just sadly most of ours were straight to the keeper or wide. Edlington showed a lot more commitment, composure and confidence when attacking the ball.. Our girls lacked the confidence to head the ball again in dangerous situations which again lead to goals. We played some nice football at times showing what we are capable of doing but again let ourselves down by diving in, lack of composure and rushing the pass rather than playing the game. Edlington fully deserved their win, so no complaints on the loss we only had ourselves to blame. It was a rather physical game but nothing dirty and several girls seemed to not be ready for that which led to a few girls picking up a few injuries. Akila was given the MOM by the referee and fully deserved it. |

A hard fought game which Rotherham thoroughly deserved to win. The girls were up for this game and showed the grit and determination that we all know they have. A few changes to the line-up, with Naomi taking over in net nursing and injured toe and she did fantastic, Shannon had to step into centre back along side Aimee and both did fantastic. Kirsty had to fill in at left back and was outstanding. The midfield worked extremely hard and our smallest player Hollie, battled like a giant and claimed a very much deserved Man Of The Match for an unbelievable display. Akila played up front alone and battled away as usual not only with the opposition but the referee as well who wasn't very kind to Rotherham. At one point Akila was through on goal and the keeper took her out and to everyone's surprise we didn't get a penalty, but typical of Akila's drive and determination she got up to slot the ball home, rounding off a hard worked hattrick. All in all a good game of football played in good spirits by both teams. A FANTASTIC team effort and well deserved victory. Well done girls. |

After a slow start, something we seem to do a lot of, we totally dominated the game but again we didn't take our chances to put this result beyond reach in the first half. Once the girls woke up they played fantastic. Kelly was unbelievable in the centre of midfield, Hollie scored two good goals and had a great first half. Akila scored the other goal after the keeper spilled the ball, but she will be so annoyed at herself for not taking her chances as she created and battled making so many scoring opportunities and eventually being given the MOM award by the referee. Vicky managed to hit the cross bar after Keziah missed kicked the ball, both really should have scored. Naomi started in net and had little to do so in the second half we swapped her with Shannon to give Naomi something to do. Credit to Handsworth they battled away and got a second goal and then finally, Hollie fouled one of their players in the box conceding a penalty which Shannon was so close to saving. Overall if the girls had played the second half as good as the first we would have won convincingly, but they took their foot off the pedal and invited Handsworth on, who gladly took the invite to bring the game level. Well played to Handsworth and hopefully a lesson learned for Rotherham. |

What can we say, the girls came out of the starting blocks on fire. We started with Shannon in goal and she was out of this world. Every single girl out there today showed how good they actually are and we went into half time 3-1 up. We got a little scrappy at the start of the 2nd half and a kick into the middle rather than out for a throw lead to a goal (3-2) but our response was to go straight up the field and score again (4-2) we didn't stop there though. The game got very physical but the girls coped and went 5-3 up. We then seemed to switch off a little and started cruising allowing Steel City to get up some momentum and come at us. They scored a blatant offside goal to get back in the game (5-4) and again we allowed them to come on to us and in the last few minutes conceded to finish 5-5. Throughout this game Shannon was outstanding and gained her a much deserved MoM award. We're gonna give all the team a mention here because they were 'UNBELIEVABLE' , Shannon, Anna, Phoebe, Aimee, Naomi, Kirsty, Kelly,Vicky, Yekta, Toni,Keziah, Akila, Hollie you were all fantastic, deserved a win. The amount of team spirit shown from everyone, not just in your play but the shouting and encouragement to each other made us proud of you all. Steel City were the lucky team today to come away with a point. We would like to mention Steel City are a strong physical side and a good team. Sadly the player wearing the No.16 shirt needs to be sorted out and reminded it is football, as she shouldn't have been on the field after a 2 footed attack on Akila, lucky for her the ref never saw it. We would just like to tell our girls well done and to now believe in themselves as today you proved you are a great team and a lovely set of girls. Fantastic.. Well done and you fully deserved a win. |

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY |

| Hollie | ||||||
Rotherham started good today having as much play as the opposition and look pretty evenly matched. Sheffield Wednesday scored first which seemed to give our girls a boost to push harder and we then had several chances, one hitting the post, one rolled wide, a superb effort from Phoebe that went over. On another day we would have been leading 4-1. Hollie eventually got us an equaliser just before half time so we went into half time at 1-1 and were very unlucky not to be winning. The second half was like jekyll and hyde with the girls from the first half, but it didn't help with chopping and changing players and several minor knocks so players had to cover. Sheffield Wednesday nullified Akila up front by leaving several players back and Rotherham seemed to run out of ideas. All credit to Sheffield Wednesday they played some nice football and took their chances, one was a lovely lofted shot to the back post which any keeper would have struggle to get too and again a few defensive mistakes were costly. Rotherham battled to the end and hopefully won't be to disheartened by the result which actually didn't do the match justice. Hollie got MoM for another battling display. |

It was the 1st Round of the Cup today. We were missing a few regular players and the girls stepping in for them were playing out of there normal positions and can be proud. We got going as Akila scored a trade mark 1st goal to get us off the mark, then Yekta went close and was so unlucky. There was a lovely passing move, started by Tanya, who was playing centre midfield,winning a ball, passed to Kelly who put Akila through to score, a fantastic move. We played Carly up front with Akila and she played great, some fantastic vision to put Akila through on several occasions. Late in the 1st half Akila had to come off for treatment on her hand which was stood on and cut her fingers badly, one finger had a nasty cut and needed wrapping up. We went into half time 2-1 up conceding a goal just before half time which we were unlucky to concede as Kinny almost blocked the shot and Shannon had her finger tips on it. We started the 2nd half very slow and sloppy but then the girls woke up and played great having numerous chances go a miss. Anna played right midfield and never looked out of place and almost scored a 25 yard shot which just went over the the bar. Keziah should have had an hat-trick but was unlucky and at least she and the girls had a laugh at one of her misses. Phoebe hit a lovely drive which deflected off a defender towards Akila who hit it wide. We had some great chances. Akila scored two more goals in the 2nd half, one was an outstanding lob as the keeper rushed out. We had another great chance when Akila crossed the ball which Carly almost scored with her head but the keeper caught it. Kelly as usual was Stevie Gerrard battling and passing the ball around, fantastic again, she delivered a fantastic corner which Akila just missed heading, with the bounce fooling everyone. With 15 minutes to go Shannon had to come off with a hurt shoulder from diving for the ball so Naomi had to go in the net. Again Shannon so vital in goal had a great game. Naomi then did well pushing a free kick wide. And late in the game Akila put Carly through who put her shot passed the keeper and it looked goal bound but just bounced and went wide of the post. Man of the Match went to Akila, well done. All the girls did really well and put in another good performance. Well Done Girls. |

Well this was a shocking result for Rotherham. The pitch was horrendous and was commented on by several people. From the first whistle Rotherham were second best to everything and it stayed that way throughout the first half. We were camped in our own half for the majority and looked half asleep at times. Suprisingly Rotherham took the lead with a fantastic strike from Kelly on 20mins, one of the players who actually looked awake. Rotherham only kept the lead for 3 minutes before the inevitable happened 1-1. It still didn't wake us up and on 32mins we went 2-1 down and it was what we deserved again for a poor display. Just before half time the team took a massive blow when the pitch surface claimed Akila who went over on her ankle and had to be carried off. The referee gave us a little extended half time to assess Akila's injury which sadly mean't she couldn't continue. After an half time reshuffle and dressing down Rotherham started the 2nd half with a purpose and looked to be getting on top but then for whatever reason went back to being happy to be second best to everything. We were still kicking fresh air, couldn't clear a ball and shirked out of headers and challengers. Kelly was given the captaincy at half time and lead by example and was having to run all over the field to cover including taking the goal kicks and by the end she was shattered but an absolute fantastic performance. Sadly we conceded a 3rd goal in the 2nd half (3-1) and poor Shannon in goal seemed to be in a shooting gallery but pulled off some fantastic saves to keep the score respectable, she eventually got the MoM match and is fast becoming a star in the goal as well as in the funniest comments department (great team spirit Shannon keep it up). Rotherham looked to be trying a little harder the 2nd half but we had run out of steam and ideas at the end and seemed to have accepted the loss by the final whistle. Well done to Worksop Town for a well played game and deserved win and to the referee who was great as well. Just one of the games Rotherham, we know you are 100x better than this. COME ON ROTHERHAM!!!!!!! |

BARNSLEY LADIES FC |
||||
| A windy day today. Barnsley were an organised and strong physical side. At the moment we are struggling with our form but how we handled them was a good show from the girls. We didn't have many chances in this game but the girls tried hard and that's what mattered. The referee gave us a quick indication of how he was going to be when he punished Shannon for holding onto the ball for more than 6 seconds giving away an indirect free kick. We were again losing out to the basic stuff which our girls do right routinely in training. I know the girls were disappointed as were the parents but only 4 goals conceded wasn't a bad result to the league leaders. Shannon was again great in goal and Yekta had a great game in midfield. We tried a few combinations up front with the girls, firstly with Hollie and Toni but they were up against some big,strong girls and simply got out muscled, we put Vicky and Carly up front and were unlucky on two occasions, with a little luck we might have sneaked a goal or two. Anna at right midfield stood out today, she had a good game to say its not her normal position. Keep your heads up girls. We are now at our turn around in the league so we get to play them all again... bring on Socrates and lets show them WE ARE ROTHERHAM TOWN GIRLS JFC :) | ||||||

| The team performed a lot better today. They started to play football again instead of just lumping it away. We looked like we knew what we wanted to do with some great football played at times, and a little bit of luck also. A few of the girls took there time to get into their stride so we looked threatening but were struggling to find the end product. Yekta ran all over the pitch in the first half working extremely hard. Little Hollie (Our giant in disguise) was fantastic coming in off the right wing to support the attack was unlucky on a few occasions, but she also saved us by tracking back into our own 18yd box and making some very important challenges. A display to be proud of and gained her the MoM award which she fully deserved. Naomi was so solid at the back, with Aimee covering her with her pace and determination. Both Phoebe and Tanya as left and right backs we solid and did a great job. Kelly as usual sat in the middle and had a steady game, but by her standards I think she will be disappointed because she usually is in the middle of everything. Toni and Carly started up front and linked up very well, both looking for the killer pass and battling hard. Toni was so unlucky at one point when she pressured a defender, forced a mistake, then tackled the second defender before getting a shot away, a great bit if play and determination from her. Carly had a fantastic game, setting up some fantastic attacking play. Several players got shots off thanks to Carly doing the perfect lay off and shielding of the ball. Akila made her comeback debut from injury late in the 1st half and her first cross nearly got Carly a goal who was very brave and unlucky not to score. Akila was unlucky not to score one or two in the 2nd half, hitting the post and rolling them wide, or just over running the ball. A little rusty but hopefully will be 100% soon. Lauren started the 2nd half in place of Naomi who was struggling with her toe and did fantastic alongside Aimee. Aimee eventually had to come off feeling ill, with Naomi replacing her. Vicky scored our only goal, with what can only be described as fantastic. She picked the ball up in her own half then used her strength and determination to go passed two players before striking a ball that went into the back of the net .. absolutely fantastic. She was again so unlucky when she hit a ball that rattled the crossbar and bounced on the line and came out. We looked on top of socrates for most of the game but we needed our bit of luck too. Shannon pulling off a fantastic save and again great in goal and on the few occasions we made mistakes we luckily weren't punished. Right at the end, Socrates played a lovely piece of football opening our defence wide open and thankfully for us, they rocketed the ball wide or they could have sneaked a 1-1 right at the end. A fantastic game to watch (even better when you win) With all the players from both sides playing with great spirit. Well done Rotherham. And thank you to Socrates for a good game. | ||||||

A very cold and windy day today. The pitch was an odd size, a bit like the Steel City one so we were expecting lots of shots and shooting. The game was very evenly matched throughout. We seemed to allow the Edlington girls to push us around in the first half. They were pretty physical but it was fair, and it took our girls a little time to wake up and start putting themselves about. We had several chances aswell as the odd mistakes. Yekta was outstanding throughout the game from start to finish battled and battled, Hollie again did her usual battling and fighting and for our smallest player she is so deceiving for the opposition. Vicky was strong in the middle today doing exactly what we know she can do. We didn't do much wrong in the first half but for one mistake and it left us 1-0 down with Shannon being isolated in a 1v1 situation. We started the 2nd half again with great spirit and a good team effort and attitude. We made a change 10mins into the 2nd half, bringing Akila on for Kinny (who was poorly today and only played a small part). Akila instantly gave the girls a lift and they lifted it a gear. A great bit of battling from Hollie put Akila through to score having only been on the field a few minutes, and several minutes later should have had another but theor keeper was lucky because the ball hit her rather than a save. We had a few scary moments at the back, but Shannon's bravery was fantastic and bailed us out. We then conceded to a well taken drive from an Edlington player but Rotherham didn't let their heads drop and carried on battling away. It eventually paid off when a clearance from Edlington came to Carly who has probably scored the Goal of the season with a perfect volley, which dipped in over there keeper from about 25yds, fantastic goal. (2-2). We then seemed to look like we would win with Vicky going clear but it was on her weaker foot and she skewed it wide, so unlucky for our captain. We then ended up conceding when we were caught short at the back and not challenging Edlington's big centre forward who got a clear shot at goal which she took beautifully giving Shannon no chance. (3-2) Aimee took a knock and had to come off, so Lauren replaced her. We then pushed Naomi up front to try and get a goal. We were so unlucky right at the end with a perfect cross from Akila, which Hollie headed and looked in, right until it hit the crossbar and bounced out clearing all of our attacking players and was cleared to safety. Hollie was given the MoM again, well done Hollie. Yekta was in the running also after a storming performance.The game finished 3-2 to Edlington and was a great game to watch. Rotherham can be proud of a great team performance and count themselves unlucky to not take something away today. Well done Edlington for a great game. After the game several parents said that the game was cut short and only 30mins played when we should have been playing 35mins, if that was the case a little disappointing, but was a great game none the less in freezing conditions. |

This was always going to be a good game. Rotherham and Whiston always seem to have a great game of football and it didn't disappoint. Rotherham as usual started out slow and sloppy but had luck on their side as several mistakes went unpunished early on. Rotherham took the lead on 24mins when Hollie scored giving us the lead but to be fair it was against the run of play. Again we made several mistakes but still had luck with us. At the other end of the field we weren't without our chances and Whiston's goalkeeper read the game well and made some great decisions to come collect the ball aswell as a few great saves. Half time was 1-0 to Rotherham. We got a 2nd goal 8mins into the second half from a corner the Kelly put right in the danger zone, Hollie managed to get something on the ball and it bounced off a Whiston player but was always goal bound (2-0). 2 minutes later Whiston got a goal back (2-1). Again Whiston's keeper was fantastic pulling off some great saves keeping the score at 2-1, Toni deserved a goal after despatching a shot towards the top right hand corner but again was saved and then on 27mins into the 2nd half Whiston equalised. We were now heading towards extra time if we couldn't score. We had a few more half chances and in the last minute of the game gave a corner away. It was a scary moment as everyone missed it swinging at fresh air, it bobbled before we eventually got it clear, and the final whistle went. Extra time to be played 7minutes each way. We kicked off and really didn't have much to shout about. We then made the big mistake of not clearing the ball in our own area, several players leaving the ball to each other and confusion set in, a lot of kicking for the ball went on before a Whiston player managed to get it into the net (2-3). Our players looked like their heads dropped but they tried to carry on. Whiston at this point killed the game off by constantly kicking the ball into touch protecting their lead, which the did very well. All credit to Whiston for a great comeback to win. Some of the Rotherham players were heartbroken and several of the parents showed their disappointment too. We have to keep our heads up, keep on fighting. |

| In absolutely freezing and wet conditions with a little wind to top it off we lost today. Rotherham had to play in their tracksuit tops as we had a clash of kits. We kicked off and it was a scrappy start. Toni had our 1st attempt at goal and was unlucky, then had to be substituted with what looks like a pulled muscle.We took the lead when Hollie got through on goal and this time we had a little luck because she was clearly offside and played to the whistle, slotting home past the keeper(1-0), but that's football and sometimes to get them some time you don't. Kelly later took the ball square in the face busting her nose and lip and had to be substituted till she was ok to continue, Keziah came on to cover for her. The game was scrappy but the girls tried under some very severe weather conditions. We conceded the equaliser from the wide right position (1-1) but the game was still scrappy, nothing really to mention up until we gave a free kick away just outside the area. Millmoor were always going to shoot and they did, hit the post and it rolled across the goal mouth, Shannon scrabbled to try and get back across, but Millmoor were quickest to react, with most of our defence standing as Millmoor followed up and got a simple tap in(2-1). Then on the stroke of half time Millmoor fired a balled to the near post and it looked like it hit Aimee in the stomach, winding her and rolled over the line as the whistle went (3-1). At half time we all stood shivering and wet through just trying to keep warm. For the second half Vicky went in goal to allow Shannon to play out. As the second half kicked off, you could see that Millmoors tactics were to shoot on sight and it paid off, they scored 3 quick goals as we allowed them the time and space to pull the trigger(6-1). We pulled Akila back into defence then to try and help out pushing Naomi into midfield and Kelly up front. Rotherham seemed to wake up a little and push forward and eventually Kelly scored a great goal into the roof of the net (6-2). We contiuned to push and also rode our luck a little bit at the back. Carly was so close on one occasion when the ball landed on the roof of the net. Sadly it wasn't mean't to be today, the girls tried hard but after conceding the goals they gave themselves a mountain to climb but they tried, Well done girls for trying in such freezing conditions. Hope you are all warmed up now and the teeth have stopped chattering :) | ||||||
